NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Monday he was optimistic that a contract on the purchase of 21 Russian helicopters for the Afghan armed forces would be signed.
Russia and the United States are currently holding talks on the financial aspect of the deal, Rasmussen said.
The NATO-Russia Council may create a trust fund to partially cover the cost of the helicopters and their spare parts.
