Protesters on Cairo's Tahrir Square angered with President Hosni Mubarak's refusal to resign are calling for further demonstrations against the president, urging the Army to join the protests.
Late on Thursday, hundreds of thousands of protestors gathered on the square, which has been the center of the unrest since it broke out on January 25, to listen to Mubarak's televised address to the nation.
Mubarak, who was widely expected to announce his resignation during this speech, disappointed the protesters when he said that he was delegating powers to the newly appointed prime minister, Omar Suleiman, but refused to resign.
"Down with Mubarak! Go away!" protesters are chanting. "Army, it's time to make a choice between [Mubarak's] regime and the people!"
Suleiman, who spoke on state TV shortly after Mubarak, called on protesters to go home, saying that major concessions had already been made and that further protests could drive the country into "chaos."
"We want neither Mubarak nor Suleiman! They are two sides of the same coin!" protesters are chanting.
According to Egyptian state TV, Suleiman will be responsible for the country's domestic and foreign policies, while Mubarak will maintain his presidential rights to dissolve the parliament and the government and put forward proposals on constitutional amendments.
Protesters have already called for major demonstrations on Friday, expected to be held in several other sites around Cairo besides Tahrir Square.
"The people want Mubarak to step down. We are not leaving - it is him who is leaving," said Egyptian student Ahmed Omar, 22, adding "tomorrow will be a big day here."
