Fourteen protesters detained at an unsanctioned rally in downtown Moscow will be released soon, a police source said on Saturday.

Earlier on Saturday, Russia's opposition held the Day of Wrath rally at the monument to Karl Marx on Teatralnaya Square. The event was authorized for the first time by the Mayor's Office and gathered some 300 opposition activists.

However, after the rally its participants, led by Left Front opposition movement leader Sergei Udaltsov, attempted to stage an unsanctioned protest in front of the Russian president's administration and were detained by police.

The source said the protesters will be released after "all the necessary measures are taken."

A spokesperson for Left Front said Udaltsov was denied the right to see his lawyer.
