Iranian police have dispersed an opposition demonstration in Tehran with teargas, Iranian opposition websites said on Monday.
Thousands of protesters gathered in downtown Tehran on Monday inspired by recent uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia. Rioters demanded fair elections, freedom of speech and an end to the persecution of dissents.
There have been no official reports about police using teargas against protesters.
Media reports said mobile connection has been shut down at the sites of protests. BBC said internet connection and satellite television signals have also been blocked in Tehran.
Iranian police placed opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi under house arrest to stop them attending the rally.
