A car bomb killed a police officer in Russia's southern republic of Dagestan, shortly after a suicide bomb attack in the area earlier on Monday, police said.
The car was stopped for inspection by security guards as it was driving towards the scene of the previous explosion. The blast killed one police officer and injured another five.
Following the explosion a shootout occurred between unidentified assailants and police. It is unclear how many assailants were killed.
Earlier on Monday a female suicide bomber blew herself up near the local police station, killing at least one police officer and injuring four.
