A senior official from the International Olympic Committee was pleased with a new center for Alpine Skiing in Russia's south that was built for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Jean-Claude Killy, the head of the IOC Coordination Commission for preparations of the 2014 Olympics, attended the Alpine FIS European Cup competitions at the Rosa Khutor Alpine resort in Russia's Black Sea resort city of Sochi.

"My impressions are very positive. I have been paying visits here for three years and saw how it was built... There are beautiful and wonderful slopes here," Killy said.

The Alpine FIS European Cup is being held at the newly opened Rosa Khutor ski resort between February 15 and 26 and Killy said that running the event at the new center is the best way to test it before the Olympic Games.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin joined Killy on Friday at the Rosa Khutor resort and took the slopes several times.

With a total length of 20 km of runs, Rosa Khutor is located on Aibga Ridge and is intended for all Alpine Skiing disciplines: Downhill, Combined (downhill and slalom), Giant Slalom and the Super Giant Slalom.

The slopes were developed by Bernard Russi, a famous ski architect from the International Ski Federation.
