A Russian driver who carried a police officer on the hood of his car for 1.5 kilometers was taken into custody on Tuesday.
On Saturday, the driver, identified only as Kocharyan, a 26-year old native of Armenia, was spotted driving in the opposite lane of a one-way street near the city of Tula, about 200 kilometers south of Moscow.
Traffic police inspector Alexander Grechishkin ordered him to stop but Kocharyan ignored the order and attempted to run the police officer down.
Grechishkin jumped onto the hood of his car but the allegedly drunk Kocharyan stepped on the gas to try to get rid of him. The police officer only managed to get off when the car malfunctioned and slowed down.
Criminal proceedings were opened against Kocharyan on charges of use of violence and endangering the life of a government official.
He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
