The 106th Guards Airborne Division of the Red-Banner Order of Kutuzov held military drills on March 3 in the Ryazan Region.

During manoeuvres at the drop zone near the town of Novinky, about 800 soldiers and 12 units of military equipment were parachuted from an IL-76.

Among the combat units were six airborne combat vehicles, three self-propelled NONA artillery guns and two wheeled-vehicle units – a fuel tanker and a cargo carrier with additional materiel and ammunition.

The landing operation took place in three stages: reconnaissance units were sent to gather local data, hardware and cargo was parachuted in, then the paratroopers landed.

After landing, the paratroopers unmoored and prepared the military hardware for use, then proceeded to perform the assignments.

The soldiers had no more than 10 minutes to complete the tasks.

The command-staff exercises, which last from February 28 till March 5, involve a total of over 3,500 troops and 200 vehicles.

After landing and engaging imaginary enemy troops, the paratroopers practiced defensive night fire.

Combat vehicles must be parachuted from an aircraft in just 18 seconds.
