Egypt will hold a national referendum on amendments to its constitution on March 19, the Egyptian government said on its Facebook page on Friday.
The military council, which has been ruling the North African country since long-standing President Hosni Mubarak was ousted in mid-February, has suspended the constitution.
Amendments are being drafted by a constitutional reform commission comprising 10 people, including legal experts, judges from the constitutional and other courts and university professors.
The commission has proposed reducing the presidential term to four years from six and suggested that the president should be elected for two terms.
