India has successfully test-fired its domestically developed interceptor missile capable of destroying hostile missiles, the Indian news agency IANS reported on Sunday, referring to official sources.
The interceptor missile was fired from Wheeler Island off Orissa coast early on Sunday and destroyed the target at an altitude of about 16 km, the agency said.
The target was the Prithvi missile fired from the Chandipur range located some 70 km away from Wheeler Island across the sea.
'It was a fantastic mission. It successfully hit the target,' S.P. Dash, the director of the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, told IANS.
