Ruling Reform Party takes lead in preliminary vote in Estonia

Estonia's ruling Reform Party, led by the prime minister, has topped the vote with 34% in preliminary elections that ended on March 2.

With the 27%-turnout, the IRL party, which is also in the ruling coalition, gained 27.8% followed by Social Democrats with 18.3% and the opposition Centrist Party with 14.3%.

The Russian Party in Estonia has emerged with 0.5% of the vote.

Parties in the Baltic country, which is also a European Union member, have to cross a 5% margin to join parliament.

Estonia also held parliamentary elections on Sunday, with 789 candidates running for 101 seats. The candidates represented nine political parties, and 32 of them qualified as independent. The results will be announced later.
