The Foreign Ministers of the Arab states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) urged to impose a no-fly zone over Libya, RIA Novosti correspondent reported on Monday.
"We urge to declare an air area over Libya a no-fly zone," the Foreign Ministers of the GCC states said in a joint statement.
GCC comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
The UK, France as well as NATO and EU have announced their plans on the possible establishment of a no-fly zone over Libya to protect peaceful civilians from the air strikes by pro-Gaddafi forces.
The unrest in Libya began on February 15, following the ouster of authoritarian regimes in Tunisia and Egypt. Libyans are demanding an end to its leader Muammar Gaddafi's 42-year rule. Up to 6,000 people had been killed in the anti-government clashes, according to the international human rights organizations.
