March 15 is the birthday of Russia’s First Lady, Svetlana Medvedev. She has been in the media spotlight since May 7, 2008 – the day of her husband’s inauguration as Russian president.
The media have not commented on the birthday gifts Svetlana Medvedev will be getting this year. Last year Dutch horticulturalists named a new variety of tulip after Svetlana as a rather original birthday present.

Svetlana met her future husband at the Kupchino School No. 305 in St. Petersburg, which both of them attended. She visited the school as first lady on October 5, 2010.
In 1987, Svetlana Medvedev graduated from the Leningrad Finance and Economics Institute, where she specialized in corporate economic analysis. She started working as an economist while still working on her college degree.

Family values are very important the Russian president’s wife. She chairs the council of trustees of an educational program for teaching spiritual and moral values to young Russians.
Svetlana Medvedev followed her husband’s lead in starting her own blog, The First Lady’s Diary. She first started her own page as part of her husband’s website in September 2009, which described the events she attended.
As first lady, Svetlana Medvedev often has to accompany her husband on official international trips and visits. There is usually a separate program for the first lady on such occasions. On June 25, 2010 she took part in making a canoe during the G20 summit.

Svetlana Medvedev has two church awards: the Order of St. Olga, Third Class (2007), and the Order of St. Euphrosyne (2008). In 2010, she received the International Award of Sts. Cyril and Methodius from the Slavic Foundation and the Moscow Patriarchy.
