The local authorities organized emergency shelter but they cannot provide earthquake survivors with everything they need. The people taking refuge in the sports hall use every opportunity to find out what is going on outside.
In addition, these Sendai survivors are suffering from cold: many emergency shelters are not heated and their residents do not have enough warm clothes.
A devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture, 373 km north-west of Tokyo, on March 11, 2011. A total of 3,676 people were killed in the earthquake and 7,843 people remain missing.
