Libya has invited observers from Turkey, Greece and Malta to monitor the newly announced ceasefire in the North African country, the official JANA news agency reported Friday.
Earlier in the day, Libya declared an immediate ceasefire in response to a UN Security Council resolution authorizing a no-fly zone over the war-torn country.
According to JANA, Libyan Prime Minister Al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmoudi has already held talks with his counterparts in the Turkish and Maltese governments.
"He confirmed that Libya is ready to receive observers from Turkey, Malta and Greece to monitor the ceasefire regime," the news agency said.
The 15-nation UN Security Council voted on Thursday to declare Libya a no-fly zone to prevent longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi ordering air strikes on rebel-held cities. Five nations, including Russia, abstained from the vote.
The resolution also authorizes "all necessary measures" against forces loyal to Gaddafi, including military action.
Libya has been hit by protests demanding the resignation of strongman Gaddafi since mid-February.
