Serbian fans performed songs and lit flares, as they greeted Vladimir Putin at Belgrade’s Marakana Stadium. Belgrade hosted a junior-league match between Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) and Zenit St. Petersburg.
Many fans brought Russian flags and posters screened with Putin’s image. Fans in the stands opposite the distinguished guest box unfurled banners with the Russian-language inscription: “Elder brother, please kiss our mother and tell her that we are worthy, that we are struggling, and that we will continue to struggle. Tell her that we love her.”
