Flowers commemorate victims of deadly blasts in Moscow metro

Muscovites bring flowers and candles to the Lubyanka and Park Kultury metro stations to commemorate the victims of the terrorist attacks on March 29, 2010.

Last year, two blasts in the Moscow metro killed 40 and injured over 100.

Red cloths cover the tables that were erected today in the morning at the Lubyanka metro station.

Muscovites began laying flowers at the Park Kultury metro station on Monday – a day before the tragedy’s one-year anniversary.

With every hour, more flowers are brought to the metro stations that were rocked by blasts last year. The tables erected at the Lubyanka station were covered by 9 am.

Many flowers have been laid at the Park Kultury metro station’s information kiosk. While most people bring red roses and carnations, others also light candles.

Extra police are working shifts at the metro stations today. Security measures in the Moscow metro were tightened on Monday, a Moscow police source told RIA Novosti.

Two explosions, forty-five minutes apart, rocked the Lubyanka and Park Kultury metro stations during morning rush hour on March 29, 2010.

The Russian security services revealed that the bomb at the Lubyanka metro station had been set off by suicide bomber from Dagestan Mariam Sharipova, who was born in 1982. The second bomb had been set off by another Dagestan resident Dzhanet Abdurakhmanova (Abdulayeva), born in 1992.
