The confirmed death toll in Japan's 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami grew to 11,734, the NHK TV channel said on Friday.
The total death toll from the disaster could rise much higher as 16,375 are listed as missing.
The twin disaster that rocked Japan on March 11 also triggered a number of explosions at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, spreading fears of massive radioactive contamination.
