Father Frost, Tsar Berendei, Baba Yaga, the Kikimora, the Mouse, the Domovoi and the New Year Spirits arrived in the central Russian city of Kostroma on April 2 to congratulate Snegurochka, the Snow Maiden, on her birthday and hold virtual tours of the fairytale world.
The birthday of the Snow Maiden, Father Frost’s granddaughter from Kostroma, and celebrations inside her magic palace decorated with ice sculptures, were the first events in a series of year-long nationwide fairytale festivities filled with interactive adventures for children and adults.
The Kikimora is an enviable bride as she has her own home. Everything is real: The Wood Goblin lives inside a tree stump overgrown with moss, and a real river of fire flows under the bridge. The Kikimora will invite tourists for a downhill ride in inflatable cheesecake-shaped sleds and to climb a magic cliff or take part in a rafting regatta.
On June 4, Russian and foreign tourists will be able to attend the Redhead Festival marking the beginning of summer in the historic central Russian town of Pereslavl-Zalessky at the invitation of Tsar Berendei. On June 25, they will celebrate the birthday of Baba Yaga at her hut which rests on chicken legs in the village of Kukoba in the Yaroslavl Region.
On July 9, the town of Myshkin will attract a great number of tourists when it hosts the traditional International Festival of the Mouse. On November 18, Father Frost will celebrate his birthday in Veliky Ustyug, ushering in nationwide celebrations of winter.
