This is the 51st festival. The traditional lineup of performers included school bands, city officials and trade union representatives, as well as the festival’s goodwill ambassadors.
The festival had a new function this year. Many events raised funds to help victims of the Japanese quakes and tsunamis. Traditionally, a Japanese drum orchestra also entertained the spectators.
The march paused for several minutes due to a fire that broke out in a car. The musicians were patient, waiting for a signal to continue their performance.
Many participants took pictures of renowned city sights before going home.
