Moscow ex-mayor Yury Luzhkov has reiterated he has no plans of leaving Russia.

Russian media have supposed that Luzhkov, dismissed in September, 2010, by President Dmitry Medvedev for loss of confidence, was attempting to resettle in Britain.

However Luzhkov has persistently denied the rumors.

"My potential will be needed [in Russia]. There are lots of spheres and activities in our country, apart from this infamous politics," Luzhkov said in an interview with the Russian REN TV channel on Wednesday.

Luzhkov's two daughters are already studying in Britain. Explaining why he sent his girls to study abroad in November 2010, he said: "We have serious reasons to fear for their safety. Some people hate us, and if someone wants to get to our family, they could go for our children, who are the most vulnerable. We are afraid to keep them in Russia."

The recent loud story with Bank of Moscow President Andrei Borodin's arrest warrant also is reportedly linked to Luzhkov wife's name, Yelena Baturina.

Borodin has holed up in Britain after being served criminal charges connected with a 12.76 billion ruble ($452 million) loan that the Bank of Moscow granted to a little-known company.

Investigators claim the loan granted by the Bank of Moscow was allegedly used in a complex series of deals to buy land in Moscow owned by Inteco, Baturina's construction and real estate company, at an excessive price, in order to slash the company's debts.
