A military parade and a massive demonstration marking the 50th anniversary of the defeat of armed Cuban exiles at the Playa Giron landing site in 1961 were held on Revolution Square in central Havana for the first time in five years.
Two hundred young people wearing the uniforms of Cuban military units, which defeated counter-revolutionary forces at Playa Giron 50 years ago, entered the square.
Cuban authorities said the demonstration had confirmed “the socialist nature of the Cuban revolution.”
