The U.K.'s most expensive apartment has been bought for more than $220 million by Donetsk-based holding company System Capital Management (SCM), owned by Ukrainian tycoon Rinat Akhmetov.
"This is SCM's investment," Akhmetov's spokeswoman Yelena Dovzhenko said on Tuesday.
The three-storey apartment in the luxury One Hyde Park residential complex was sold for 135.4 million pounds in 2007, but the deal has only just been made public.
The Ukrainian financial and industrial holding company said in a statement on its website that the purchase was "a portfolio investment."
Forbes estimated the fortune of Akhmetov, who owns 100% of SCM shares, at about $16 billion in 2011.
The previous record for property in the U.K. was also held by a Ukrainian. Tycoon Viktor Pinchuk, ranked 336th on the Forbes 2011 list of the world's wealthiest people with a fortune of $3.3 billion, bought a villa in London for 80 million pounds.
