About 52,000 residents of Russia’s Far Eastern Primorye Territory took part in demonstrations marking Spring and Labor Day, or May Day, in the local administrative center of Vladivostok.

Workers, school and university students and representatives of scientific circles attended the demonstrations.

Marches, organized by the Russian Communist Party, also took place in the eastern Siberian city of Novosibirsk.

A record 2,500 people also gathered for an alternative march, dubbed Monstratsiya (Monstration), carrying placards with absurd slogans such as “Take the Light,” “Sauce,” or “Yummy.” Monstratsiya marches took place on Sunday across the country.

Trade unions marched in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg…

… and the western city of Veliky Novgorod.

In St. Petersburg, thousands of demonstrators marched along the city’s main avenue under Communist flags. Other political parties and movements also organized May Day marches in Russia’s second largest city.

More than 35,000 people took part in demonstrations in Moscow on Spring and Labor Day.

Moscow's largest May Day demonstration was organized by supporters of the pro-Kremlin United Russia party, which gathered some 25,000 people.

No major incidents have been registered in Moscow during Labor Day events, police said.
