A high-ranking Russian police official who opened fire in a brawl with security guards while drunk was given a three-year suspended jail sentence on Tuesday.
Maj. Gen. Yevgeny Novikov was found guilty of hooliganism and illegal possession of firearms by judges at the Preobrazhensky district court in Moscow.
Novikov, then the Interior Ministry's public order department deputy chief, was driving in a Moscow suburb last February when he got lost.
When security guards at a nearby firm were unable to help him with directions, the 54-year-old produced a gun and fired in the air.
President Dmitry Medvedev sacked Novikov last September.
