The Moscow authorities announced plans on Wednesday to set up signs and information points in Latin script to make the city more accessible to foreign tourists.
The city government opened a competition for a private bidder to build more than 130 information points and signs, including 70 in Latin script, by the end of August. The move is part of a wider project to boost tourism in Russia by making major attractions more user-friendly.
"Information points will be installed at historical and cultural sights in Moscow, such as theaters, parks, squares and monuments," the city authorities said in a statement on the zakupki.gove.ru website.
The project is expected to cost around 20 million rubles ($704,000).
The World Economic Forum lists Russia is the fourth country in the world by the number of World Heritage sites and the 13th by the number of cultural attractions. However, it ranks a mere 59th out of 139 countries by the competitiveness of its tourist business.
The Russian government has come under criticism for ignoring the country's tourist potential in favor of more lucrative industries such as oil and gas.
