Sharapova beat Croatia’s Mirjana Lucic in two sets (6:3, 6:0) to advance to the second round

In the second round the No. 7 seed struggled against France’s Caroline Garcia. Sharapova needed all her mental strength to beat Garcia 3:6, 6:4, 6:0.

In the third round match, which lasted an hour and a half, Sharapova faced Taiwan’s Chan Yongjian, winning 6:2, 6:3.

Sharapova’s fiancée Sasha Vujacic was supporting her from the stands.

Sharapova defeated Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska 7:6, 7:5, 7:5 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals Sharapova faced Andrea Petkovic. She crushed the German in straight sets – 6:0, 6:3 – in a match lasting 1 hour 30 minutes.

Sharapova said she was very happy to be in a Grand Slam semi again, especially at Roland Garros.

In the semifinal Maria Sharapova lost to Li Na. The sixth-seeded Chinese won 6:4, 7:5 in 1 hour 48 minutes.

"At times I didn't serve well," Sharapova said at the post-match news conference. "I was rushing a little bit more than I had to... I still feel that I had my share of chances - I just didn't take them."
