Russian President Dmitry Medvedev proposed on Friday expanding the grounds for the dismissal of state and government officials to include loss of confidence.
"Dismissal may be based on data obtained as a result of investigative actions even if they may not be formally used for criminal prosecution," he told the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. "This essentially means dismissal for loss of confidence."
Medvedev also said he would submit a bill to parliament tightening prosecutorial oversight of criminal cases, especially the grounds for the initiation and termination of criminal proceedings.
The bill is designed to fight abuses by investigators who turn investigative procedures into corporate raiding tools, he said.
