“The alligator capital of the world” Gatorland in Florida

Orlando in the U.S. state of Florida is known primarily for its theme parks Disney World and Universal Studios, the Sea World aquarium and only few are aware that the alligator capital of the world is located nearby. This is exactly how the Gatorland farm is known, where thousands of alligators are bred, hatched, and can freely roam. It is impossible to mistake the entrance to Gatorland with anything else.

Aquariums, which at first glance appear to be ordinary, can be seen right at the entrance. Closer inspection though reveals that they are home to baby alligators, rather than fish.

Young alligators bask in the sun.

Turtles are alligators’ best friends. In a natural habitat alligators might sometimes prey on turtles, but the abundance of food in the park ensures this does not happen.

The rare white alligators find it difficult to survive in the wild – concealing themselves in swamps is no easy task.

Neither people, nor the alligators can threaten birds in the park.

The birds build nests above the alligators, interestingly, for safety reasons. Alligators and crocodiles are feared by all predators, so they serve as bodyguards for the birds. Despite this, it is probably best for chicks not to fall into the water.

At extra cost tourists can feed carrots or pumpkins to the giant turtles.

Vultures manage to create a somber atmosphere even on a bright summer day.

But other animals instantly dispel the bad mood.
