A New York court decided on Friday to end the house arrest of former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn, detained in mid-May on charges of sexually assaulting a hotel maid, his lawyer told journalists.
The former IMF chief has already had the $1-million bail he posted returned to him. The court did not decide, however, to give Strauss-Kahn his passport back, and the case against has not been closed.
Strauss-Kahn, 62, was arrested in mid-May at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on board a plane to Paris. He is charged with sexually assaulting a maid at the Sofitel Hotel near Manhattan's Times Square. He pled not guilty to all charges.
Bloomberg reported earlier in the day that the prosecution had serious questions about credibility of the woman who is accusing Strauss-Kahn. The New York Times earlier reported, citing sources, that the case may be "on the verge of collapse."
