A 7.0-magnitude earthquake rattled Japan's eastern coast on Sunday and a tsunami warning was issued, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

All workers of Japan's troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant were taken to higher ground over the tsunami alert, NHK broadcaster said. The Kyodo news agency said "no abnormalities" were reported at the plant.

The earthquake, with an epicenter located at the depth of 35.9 km (21.7 miles) some 250 km (155 miles) east of Fukushima , struck at 10:57 local time (00:57 GMT).

The Japanese meteorological agency said on its website the expected height of tsunami is some 50 cm.

A 9.0-magnitude quake struck off Japan's northeast coast on March 11, triggering a tsunami and explosions at the Fukushima, which caused the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl in 1986.
