A referendum on the dissolution of parliament, initiated by former President Valdis Zatlers, will be held in Latvia on Saturday, the country's Central Election Commission said.
Zatlers, whose presidential term expired on July 7, had moved to dissolve parliament, the Saiema, in late May, after the legislature rejected a request by Latvia's anti-corruption office to search the house of parliament deputy and businessman Ainars Slesers, suspected of corrupt deals.
Parliament will be dissolved if half of the voters plus one support the initiative. New parliamentary elections will then be held within two months.
