A young lioness was found in a van in St. Petersburg. The cat had been chained to the backseat for at least two days and was trapped inside the hot vehicle.
A young lioness was found in a van in St. Petersburg. The cat had been chained to the backseat for at least two days and was trapped inside the hot vehicle.
Tonna the young lioness belongs to a travelling circus from Penza. Her owners said the lion had to stay in the van because she is not allowed in the hotel.
When the police arrived, her owners could show no proof of ownership documents.
A veterinarian from the city zoo and animal rights activists examined the lioness. The vet said she had rickets and that she was malnourished.
Animal rights activists plan to inform a prosecutor’s office about the incident. On July 23, the lioness was taken to the local Mariinskaya Hospital.
On Sunday, July 24, the lioness was taken to an animal shelter on Bolshoi Smolensky Avenue in St. Petersburg’s Nevsky District. She will have to spend 30 days there unless her owner submits the required documents before then.
