A second mine accident occurred on Friday in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk Region, killing two and injuring another three people, local administration representative Andrei Shyshatskiy said.
The accident occurred when a large excavating machine collapsed in the Bazhanov Mine.
"We can talk about two victims, a woman and a man," Shyshatskiy said. "One man is under a slab which must be lifted," Shyshatskiy said.
He also said voices of two people could be heard saying that more people are still below.
At least 17 miners were killed earlier on Friday after an explosion ripped through a mine in eastern Ukraine, rescue services said.
Two miners have been hospitalized and nine remain missing after the blast occurred at the Sukhodilska-Vostochnaya Mine operated by Metinvest, Ukraine's largest steel producer, in the country's Luhansk Region. Two miners were hospitalized with burns.
On Tuesday, a miner was killed and three others went missing when a roof collapsed at a coal mine in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk.
Mining accidents are frequent in Ukraine. In 2007, more than 100 miners died in a blast at a mine near Donetsk, in the east of the former Soviet republic.
