Traditional parades were held in cities from Vladivostok to the Baltic showcasing not only the might of military technology, but also demonstrating the skills of the marines. The celebrations also include colorful theatrical performances.
On July 31, Russian seamen celebrated their professional holiday, Navy Day. On July 31, Russian seamen celebrated their professional holiday, Navy Day. The military parade in Vladivostok traditionally starts with a ceremonial greeting from Admiral Konstantin Sidenko, Commander of the Eastern Military District. He congratulated the sailors on Russian Navy Day and wished them “fair seas and following winds.”
Once on ground, the marines of the Pacific Fleet demonstrated their strength and resilience to the public. Marines smashed bricks and bottles on their heads, reclined on broken glass and showed fighting techniques with spectacular leaps.
The program for Navy Day in Sevastopol was abbreviated in remembrance of the miners who died in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Visitors at the event saw demonstrations of combat equipment.
President Dimitry Medvedev attended this year's celebration of Navy Day at the main naval base of the Baltic Fleet in the city of Baltiisk.
