Uzbekistan's government has accepted a ruling in which foreigners must purchase airline tickets for domestic or international flights in foreign currencies and not the Uzbek som.
The new rule comes into effect on August 5.
"Foreigners will now pay in foreign currencies for domestic flights and flights to other countries," a government source said.
Uzbeks will also be affected by the new rule if they travel outside the country and will have to pay in convertible currencies like U.S. dollars, the Japanese yen, or euros.
