A bolt of lightning killed four military personnel and injured 10 others in the northern Colombian city of Teorama on the border with Venezuela, Caracol radio said on Thursday.
The soldiers were patrolling an area infested with narcotics traffickers at dawn when a sudden thunderstorm began. A lightning bolt struck a group of soldiers, killing four instantly and severely burning 10 others, Caracol cited a source in Colombia's Defense Ministry as saying.
Colombian authorities have sent a military helicopter to the area for the possible medical evacuation of those with severe burn injuries to the city of Cucuta.
