Seventeen people were killed and four injured in a major road accident in China's south-eastern Jiangxi province in the early hours of Sunday, Xinhua said, quoting a road police official.
The accident occurred at the Shanghai-Kunming highway at 4.30 am local time (08:30 GMT, Saturday) when a truck rear-ended another truck, overturned, and then flipped into an oncoming traffic.
Twelve people, including nine bus passengers, among them four children, died at the scene. Five of the seven people admitted to hospital also died. The two others are in a stable condition.
Preliminary investigation data show that the truck that overturned and the bus were overloaded. The bus driver, who died in the accident, is also believed to have been speeding.
