Libya's Transitional National Council (TNC) has fired its executive board and asked its chairman Mahmoud Jibril to elect a new one, Al Jazeera reported.
Experts say this could be a consequence of the recent assassination of opposition forces commander Abdel Fattah Younes, and a possible split between rebels regarding the development of a future policy.
Libyan opposition leader Abdul Jalil told Al Jazeera on Monday that the "newly formed bureau would be entrusted with reviewing the 'conspiracy' that involved the assassination of General Younes."
An uprising which began in mid-February in Libya against Muammar Gaddafi's forty-year rule has already claimed thousands of lives, with Gaddafi's troops maintaining their combat capabilities despite NATO airstrikes against them.
An international military operation "to protect civilians" in Libya began on March 19 following a UN resolution and has been extended until September.
