Russian border guards and specialists from the country's agriculture watchdog detained a Kazakh national whose herd of 27 horses crossed the border into Russia on Wednesday.

"The animals were inspected by veterinarians who discovered no contagious diseases," the watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, said in a statement.

The owner of the horses was fined 1,000 rubles ($35) for not having veterinary documents for the herd.
