A Scotland Yard detective has been arrested on suspicion of leaking information about the News of the World hacking inquiry to The Guardian, Sky News said on Friday.
The 51-year-old detective was detained at work on Thursday afternoon over the “unauthorized disclosure of information", Scotland Yard said.
He has been suspended from his job and bailed until September 29.
"I made it very clear when I took on this investigation the need for operational and information security,” Deputy Assistant Commissioner Sue Akers, who is in charge of the hacking probe, said. "It is hugely disappointing that this may not have been adhered to.
