At least six policemen were killed and some 50 wounded in shootout with militants in Pakistan on early Saturday, Xinhua news agency reported citing Pakistani media sources.
A group of militants attacked a bus full of policemen in the city of Karachi, in the south of Pakistan. Policemen opened fire in return killing two militants.
This was the second large scale attack of militants in Pakistan in 24 hours. At least 50 people were killed and over 100 injured when a bomb went off in a mosque in northwest Pakistan on Friday.
The attack took place near Jamrud in the Ghundi area of the Khyber Agency. Around 300 people had been attending the mosque when the blast ripped through worshipers right after Friday prayers.
Bomb attacks have taken place across Pakistan due to the ongoing insurgency by the Taliban and the army’s attempts to suppress it, and also due to interethnic and religious fighting.
