A presenter on state-run Libyan TV channel al-Libiyah has appeared on screen with a gun saying she is ready to become a martyr and to defend her channel against rebel forces, Al Jazeera TV channel reported on Sunday.
"With this weapon, I either kill or die today, you will not take al-Libiyah channel," the presenter said on the air.
According to the strong-minded woman, the channel's staff are ready to defend themselves from the opponents of the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to the bitter end.
"We are all armed here and even those without a weapon are willing to be a shield in order to protect their colleagues at this channel," she said. "We are willing to become martyrs," the presenter added.
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi called on his supporters on Sunday to "march by the millions" and put an end to the rebellion in the country forever.
He said the rebels were traitors responsible for sufferings of the Libyan people and destruction of cities.
An uprising which began in Libya in mid-February against Gaddafi's forty-year rule has already claimed thousands of lives. An international military operation "to protect civilians" in Libya began on March 19 following a UN resolution and has been extended until late September.
