Libyan protesters took control of the country's capital Tripoli on early Monday after two sons of ruling President Muammar Gaddafi were arrested, local media reported.
Gaddafi's son Saif al-Islam was reported earlier to be arrested by the rebels, who entered Tripoli on Sunday. Later in the day Reuters reported that Gaddafi's another son Mohammad surrendered to protesters.
"Those rats ... were attacked by the masses tonight and we eliminated them," Gaddafi was quoted as saying by Reuters in an audio message broadcast over state television early on Sunday.
At least 1,400 people were killed over the past 24 hours in armed clashes between the rebels and the authorities.
Fresh clashes between the rebel troops and security forces loyal to Libyan leader Gaddafi erupted on Sunday on the outskirts of Tripoli. The rebels entered the capital from the sea, coming from the city Misrata.
