Thousands of Muslims celebrated Eid ul-Fitr, a Muslim holiday known in Russia as Uraza Bayram, on August 30 in Moscow. This major religious ceremony was held at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.
According to Albir Hazrat Krganov, Mufti of Moscow and Russia’s Central Region, religious and city authorities wanted to relieve the pressure of crowds in the capital’s mosques, of which there are four.
The holiday represents a striving for spiritual purification. During the holiday, believers should perform good deeds by taking care of their relatives and showing compassion to those in need.
The police provided security for Muslims who gathered at the Cathedral Mosque for the Uraza Bayram celebration.
