Deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi will face trial on charges of crimes against humanity if he is captured alive, the head of the country's National Transitional Council (NTC) said on Thursday.

Deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi will face trial on charges of crimes against humanity if he is captured alive, the head of the country's National Transitional Council (NTC) said on Thursday.

"We want to pass judgment on him, as well as on his henchmen, in Libya. That's why we hope to capture him alive. We will treat him in a just manner, unlike the way he treated his enemies," NTC head Mustafa Abdeljalil told RIA Novosti.

The Hague's International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Gaddafi, along with warrants for his son Seif al-Islam and his intelligence chief Abdulla as-Senussi.

NTC forces say they are closing in on Gaddafi, who is not thought to have fled Libya.

When rebel forces cleanse all Libyan cities of Gaddafi supporters, the NTC will move from Benghazi to Tripoli, Abdeljalil said.

"I see the new Libya as a democratic, peaceful country with a multi-party system and market economy, where human rights are observed. The people will decide the future of the new Libya," Abdeljalil added.

He also said that all of the business deals concluded under Gaddafi will be examined by a newly created commission.
