Presidential elections in Venezuela have been slated for October 7, 2012, Vincente Diaz, a member of the National Elections Committee, said on Tuesday.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez' term ends on January 10, 2013, but has said he plans to run in the next presidential elections after fully recovering from chemotherapy. Chavez has been in power since 1999.
The Venezuelan opposition will choose one candidate for the primaries in February next year. The most likely candidate will be Henrique Capriles Radonski, the current governor of the state of Miranda.
