During its first five years the theater performed at schools, clubs, city courtyards and summer camps and toured the country. Sergei Obraztsov, a world renowned puppet artist from that time and an actor in the Art Theater Musical Studio, became the theater’s director.
Over the decades, the theater has become the world’s largest puppet center and includes Russia’s only library housing the major works of puppetry. It also holds the world’s biggest Theater Puppet Museum offering a look at all types of puppets and puppetry systems from ancient times through today.
The theater’s museum is a living collection of puppets. Visitors can see the puppets in a performance and understand how they are made and how the actors operate them.
Obraztsov Theater puppets often take part in street performances and international festivals.
