Syrian security forces killed at least five people and wounded over 20 during an attack on a demonstration in the Syrian city of Homs on Monday, Arab media reported.
Protesters demanding the resignation of President Bashar Assad took to the streets of Homs, 160 km north of Damascus, on Sunday night.
The Syrian government has used force to crush opposition protests, and at least 2,600 people have died in violence since March, according to the United Nations estimates.
The Syrian authorities put the number of dead at 1,400 on both sides.
