On Monday, Russian and Belarusian military personnel conducted defensive operations with army, surface-to-air missile and aviation units at a training center in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
The Union Shield 2011 exercise got underway last Friday at the Gorokhovets training center in the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Ashuluk center in the Astrakhan Region.
“The fact that the exercise is held on Russia’s territory is determined by Russia’s and Belarusia’s effort to unilaterally discourage military activity on the border between NATO and the Union State,” the Russian Defense Ministry’s Press Service and Information Department said.
